June 2020

Welcome to our new website. It has been quite a while since we lost the images on the previous one after an ‘update’ and we have had this new one in the making for a number of months.

Virtual Communities

If we can celebrate one aspect of lockdown, it is the ingenuity of people, overcoming the observation of physical distancing by developing their own virtual communities. People have been meeting to play Bingo, have quiz nights and murder mystery ‘who done its’ on Zoom or its equivalent. Even the Parish Council now has its own facebook page.

Covid 19 Neighbours as volunteers in every street

We are in the 3rd month of lockdown. Throughout lockdown the Parish Council has been working with Northumberland Communities Together aiding those in the area who are shielding and self-isolating. We did not know how many would need help at first and we amazed at the numbers of residents who volunteered with us and Northumberland Communities Together. However, we have had to call on volunteers to supplement Parish and County staff on only a few occasions.  This is due partly because those people identified by the NHS as requiring isolation are receiving weekly food parcels from a central point, but also down to the incredible support being given to vulnerable residents by family, friends, and neighbours.

The Parish Council at stakeford and Bomarsund Welfare remains open, and you can access the local food bank collections for the Matthew Project and Wansbeck Valley Food Bank in our carpark at the back door entrance to the building. Amazingly, where we used to deliver donations monthly, due the increased generosity of residents during lockdown, we are now delivering every week to both food banks
